Remembering Bob

Renowned New Jersey fly-tyer and author of Pop Fleyes, Bob Popovics, passed away today November 1 at around 3 a.m. He succumbed to injuries sustained from being struck by a vehicle in Seaside Heights, NJ, on September 23. Bob was 75 years old.

The Shady Rest Facebook page thanked everyone who visited him and promised to write a more in-depth statement later.

Bob Popovics was a pioneering fly angler and tier from New Jersey, renowned for his innovative contributions to the art of fly fishing. Best known for creating the "Pop Fleyes," his unique fly designs became favorites among anglers targeting striped bass and other species. Throughout his life, Bob authored several influential books, sharing his techniques and insights with a broader audience.

He was a passionate educator, dedicated to mentoring the next generation of fly fishers. Bob's legacy lives on through his lasting impact on the fly fishing community and the countless anglers he inspired.
